So, it's no surprise I love roguelikes. As much as I love playing them, I have yet to make one, and that is something I plan on rectifying. However, I need to keep it simple so I can actually complete it! I wrote up these plans for a druid-inspired RL, but I don't think I'm actually going to work on it for now - it's mostly here for prosperity's sake.
You play as a mortal who has eschewed the world of man to live amongst nature. But! Soon invaders begin to encroach on your paradise, and so you venture forth as it's protector...
As you wander the forest, defeating monsters and healing your territory, you will grow in strength and ability. Each level you gain gives you the ability to improve your affinity to one of the three aspects of nature - the land, the sea, and the sky.
Improving your affinity for Land grants you abilities that allow you to manipulate the earth and what grows and dwells upon it. Initially you can enchant stones to propel themselves at your foes. Later abilities include walking through walls, raising and lowering walls, and promoting the growth of plants.
Improving your affinity for Sea grants you abilities that allow you to manipulate water in all it's forms. You start with the ability to douse a foe with water, which makes it more susceptible to cold and electricity. As your affinity grows, you can freeze or boil water from a distance, breathe underwater, and call on the denizens of the deep to protect you.
Improving your affinity for Sky grants you abilities that allow you to manipulate the weather and winged animals. Starting out, you can create powerful gusts of wind to buffet your foes. The next few abilities you gain are the ability to fly, the ability to fire lightning bolts from your hands, and the ability to summon rainstorms.
