As the title of this post suggests, I've come up with a name for my 7DRL entry - or, at least a working title. Having run the idea past a few of my friends, I think I'm ready to come up with some harder details. Here are a few:
*When you defeat a monster, you gain a permanent +1 bonus to attack and defense against that type of monster (i.e. Bat, Flesh Pillar, Stalker). This bonus is cumulative.
*You also gain EXP for defeating an enemy. Once you've gotten enough EXP, you gain a level - your basic attack and defense values are equal to your level. Your HP does not increase by leveling up, nor do you learn anything new.
*Potions are scattered about the dungeon. They are unidentified until quaffed or thrown, which then their effects become known. They include:
-Healing : Restores health immediately, only heals about 30 HP.
-Regeneration : Restores health slowly, heals fully.
-Offense : Increases Offense by 1.
-Defense : Increases Defense by 1.
-Flame : Causes fire damage.
-Sloth : Character ignores %50 of commands, wears off after 100 turns (except for waits).
-Lust : Character's level no longer contributes to Offense and Defense for 50 turns.
-Greed : Character moves impulsively towards treasure, 1/8 of all actions per treasure visible, wears off after 75 turns.
-Wrath : Character runs towards visible enemies and attacks, same rate and duration as greed.
-Gluttony : Character moves towards food and potions and impulsively consumes them, same rate and duration as greed.
-Pride : Character cannot ask the demon for aid for 100 turns.
-Envy : Unknown at the moment - I'm still out on this one.
-Absolvent : Heals you of all of the 7 sins.
-Antidote : Character recovers from the effects of serpent venom, and gains immunity for 100 turns.
*The devil-book that you possess can grant you a number of boons in exchange for maximum HP. They are all available from the start. Here is an incomplete list:
-Summon Dagger : Adds an indestructible Black Dagger to the player's inventory. Costs 10 HP.
-Summon Scythe : Adds an indestructible Black Scythe to the player's inventory. Costs 25 HP.
-Pyrokinesis : Adds the spell Fireball to the player's inventory. Costs 50 HP.
-Summon Armor : Adds an indestructible suit of Black Armor to the player's inventory. Costs 50 HP.
-Heal : Refills the player's health. Costs 5 HP.
-Destroy : Kills all enemies in the room. Costs 10 HP.
-Repair : Fixes the player's equipment. Costs 1 HP per item.
-Cook : Changes a corpse into food. Costs 1 HP per item.
-Identify : Reveals the true nature of an item. Costs 1 HP.
-Invisibility : Become invisible for 100 turns. Costs 10 HP.
-Tunnel : Remove a chunk of wall. Costs 3 HP.
*One massive floor with a preset number of enemies and items. This should really limit the length of the game, and allow me more control over the scope of the game.
*Enemies are not always hostile - they usually ignore the player until the player provokes them. Here are a couple of enemies:
-Imp : Small humanoid demon. Won't attack the player - instead, it follows him/her and shouts insults at him/her, which alerts other monsters to the player's position.
-Flesh Pillar : Immobile corpse pile. Cannot move, but has a medium range (3 squares) tentacle attack that drags the player closer to its mouth.
-Stalker : Invisible shadow beast. De-cloaks shortly before it attacks with its claws and fangs. Will follow the player until he/she provokes a different monster, which signals it to attack.
-Bat : Cowardly flying mammal. Hangs from the ceiling until the player gets too close. It then lashes out at him/her and runs away to hide.
-Behemoth : Giant slavering beast. Usually oblivious to the player unless the player moves too much around it. If the player moves thrice in a row near it, it rushes the player and attacks with its weapon. Drops a heavy weapon when killed.
-Serpent : Deadly slithering reptile. Its bite is very dangerous, as it will poison the player. Poison causes the player excruciating pain, sporadic black-outs, and possibly cardiac arrest. Beware of these!
-Devil : Red-skinned humanoid. Won't attack the player, but will offer to sell him things in exchange for his life-force.
-Ghoul : Green-skinned humanoid. Won't bother the player unless he/she is carrying carrion or bothers the ghoul while it eats. It eats corpses, so throwing one at it will appease it.
-Zombie : Grey-skinned humanoid. Shambles slowly towards the player. Easy to kill, but won't stay dead for long unless burned.
-Wight : Blue-skinned humanoid. Chases after the player and grabs him/her, preventing him/her from moving. Will then begin the painful task of draining out all of the character's vital fluids.
-Angel : Will help the player by granting him a boon, but won't help the player if he/she deals too heavily with devils or kills too many monsters.
-Naga : Snake-person. Guards the various treasure troves scattered about Purgatory. Won't attack unless the player enters its chamber, and then will ignore the player if he/she leaves the chamber. Will counter ranged attacks with venomous spit, which acts as serpent's poison.
-Creeper : Thorned vine. If it tastes blood, it lashes out with thorned vines and attempts to capture the wounded target. Will grow out of control when fed corpses, but catches fire very easily.
*Weapons are few and far between, and they have a limited number of uses - melee weapons (such as daggers, swords, and scythes) have durability, which decreases each time they strike an enemy, and ranged weapons (like pistols, bows, and magic) have ammo, which decreases with each use regardless of if they hit a target or not. Certain magic weapons exist that do not degrade with use, but most likely you will need to barter with devils to get one.
-Dagger : A short blade that does little damage, but is better than nothing. +3 Offense, 2 Damage.
-Club : A heavy wooden bludgeon that is easy to fashion and use. +2 Offense, 2 Damage.
-Sword : A long blade that chops and pierces your enemies. +2 Offense, 3 Damage.
-Mace : A very heavy bludgeon made of tempered steel. +2 Offense, 4 Damage.
-Scythe : A long blade on a long pole. Its size makes it unwieldy, but its damage is nothing to be laughed at. +1 Offense, 5 Damage.
-Shield : Adds to your defense, but you can't wield a two-handed weapon. +1 Defense.
-Pistol : An ordinary handgun. Uses 9mm ammo. +3 Offense, 3 Damage.
-Shortbow : A wooden weapon that fires quickly and silently. Uses arrows. +2 Offense, 4 Damage.
-Rifle : A hunting rifle. Uses .223 ammo. +3 Offense, 5 Damage.
-Fireball : A magic spell that causes fire damage. Costs 1 HP per shot. +1 Offense, 8 Damage.
*Armor grants you a defense bonus, but it also penalizes your offense - the exact calculation is (PENALTY = ARMORBONUS - 3), where negative numbers are ignored. So, a Leather Coat, which grants a +1 bonus to Defense, has no attack penalty. Plate Mail, which has a +6 Defense bonus, has a -3 Offense penalty.
-Leather Coat : Made from the hides of various animals. +1 Defense.
-Leather Armor : Lightweight armor made from tanned hides. +2 Defense.
-Chainmail : Armor made from qwoven strands of metal. +3 Defense.
-Breastplate : Constructed from beaten iron plates. +4 Defense, -1 Offense.
-Scale Mail : Like chainmail, but with added scales of steel. +5 Defense, -2 Offense.
-Plate Mail : A heavy suit of armor forged from sturdy iron. +6 Defense, -3 Offense.
More to come, I suppose.
